What to Expect

Before the Trek

When you first arrive at Smitty’s Ridge for your horse trek, you will be greeted by one of our friendly guides, with a little bit of paper work to complete. You will then be fitted for a helmet, and given a briefing on riding safety and tips.

Your riding ability is matched with a horse, and you will get to meet and be helped onto your allocated horse. Many people may find this a bit scary, but don’t worry, because we will look after you both. Once seated, gear is checked again, to make sure you and the horse are both comfortable.

During the trek

There are lots of hills. Our horses are very surefooted and used to the terrain.

Ian aka Cowboy is very partial to taking his speaker and singing country songs. If you prefer silence so you can hear the birdsong, that is ok too.

The weather can be changable at Smitty’s. Bring something warm, a showerproof jacket, sun protection and a drink. It is important you are comfortable, so long pants that allow freedom of movement are ideal. Closed in shoes or boots are essential.
